• GREATER NUMBER OF WOMEN EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS
Our consistent annual awards program helped to increase women’s
visibility in the space thereby accelerating the discussion on
the necessity for more women in leadership in banking and other
financial institutions. As a result there have been more women
appointed MDs and CEO’s and other Senior Management positions
between 2014 and 2023 than any other decade before that.
• ENHANCING INTER-INSTITUTIONAL COLLABOTATIONS
By having women leaders from all the disciplines o finance in
one space to celebrate the most outstanding among them, an
important atmosphere of inter institution collaboration was
created leading to the roll out of for example the Bayport and
Enterprise Life Bancassurance product. The two leading women
Executives of the time of both institutions Mrs. Angela Liebel ,
Deputy Managing Director of Bayport Financial Services and Mrs.
Jackie Benyi GM o Enterprise Life are both AWIBF Awards
Laureates and met at our very first event in Feb 2014 which they
both attend with their staff and were honored.
• ROLL OUT OF MORE EXCLUSIVE WOMEN FOCUSSED BANKING ACCOUNT
SERVICES
At the 2nd Edition of the Awards, a new Awards Category was
introduced that sought to highlight the work of hardworking
banks that focused on its women clientele. The FINANCE PRODUCT
OF THE YEAR – the first such Award Category on any National
Awards Platform- was won by UBA’s Ruby Account for Women
Entrepreneurs. At that same event, its MD/.CEO Mrs. Abiola
Bawuah took home BANKING PERSON OF THE YEAR.
The introduction of the WOMEN FRIENDLY FINANCE Product of the
Year won by top institutions like UBA, Enterprise Life and
Vanguard Assurance was a positive banking industry disruptive
initiative that motivated other banking institutions to roll out
their own versions of women friendly financial products. Since
that time institutions like Stanchart and other have
subsequently rolled out their own versions.
• GREATER RECOGNITION FOR THE INSURANCE and MICROFINANCE
SECTOR WOMEN
The introduction of the AWIBF INSURANCE PERSON and MICROFINANCE
PERONS of the Year was a positive industry disruptive initiative
that spotlighted or the first time on a national scale,
outstanding female professionals in the insurance and
microfinance sectors and emphasized the importance of other
subsectors of the industry away from traditional banking. On the
Microfinance front , institution’s like Sinapi Aba Bayport
Financial Services etc. have picked up prestigious awards in
that category motivating them to increase their institution’s
sensitivity towards their women clientele.
On the Insurance sector front the AWIBF AWARDS is the only
platform to have honored all three of the former female National
Insurance Commissioners of Ghana namely Mrs. Josephine Amoah,
Ms. Lydia Bawa and Mrs. Nyamikeh Kyiamah as well as other
distinguished women leaders like Mrs. Jackie Benyi GM of
Enterprise Life.
• GREATER RECOGNITION FOR THE ACCOUNTING and INVESTMENT
BANKING SECTOR WOMEN
The introduction of the AWIBF ACCOUNTING and INVESTMENT BANKING
PERONS of the Year was a positive industry disruptive initiative
that also spotlighted or the first time on a national scale,
outstanding female professionals in the insurance and investment
banking sectors and emphasized the importance of other
subsectors of the industry away from traditional banking. On the
Accounting front, leaders like Angela Peasah the Former
President of Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana and
President of Association of Women Accountants as well as Mrs.
Doris Ahiati former ACCA Country Head of Ghana have picked up
prestigious awards in that category motivating them to increase
their institution’s sensitivity towards their women
clientele.
On the Investment Banking sector front the AWIBF AWARDS has
honored outstanding leaders like Happy Forson, Ama Ghartey and
others.
• GREATER RECOGNITION FOR THE PUBLIC SECTOR FINANCE WOMEN OF
DISTINCTION
The introduction of the AWIBF PUBLIC SECTOR FINANCE of the Year
was a positive groundbreaking industry disruptive initiative
that also spotlighted or the first time on a national scale,
outstanding female professionals in the public finance sectors
and emphasized the importance of other subsectors of the
industry away from traditional banking. Distinguished women from
the Ministry of finance and Bank of Ghana have picked up awards
over the years.
• ESTABLISHMENT OF A BIGGER NATIONAL AND PANAFRICAN PLATORM
OR THE MENTORSHIP OF THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN
LEADERS
The introduction of the AWIBF CAMPUS LADIES IN BANKING AND
FINANCE AWARD in the main Awards Ceremony was a positive finance
industry disruptive initiative that spotlighted again for the
first time on a national scale, the importance of elevating the
discourse on the next generation of women leaders or the sector
at the undergraduate level. Since that time we have also
pioneered a unique Campus Ladies in Banking and Finance Summit
and Awards series of events sponsored by top institutions like
Access Bank.
